Is it life-giving?

Over a month ago I was procrastinating well into the night. I had a blog post due for a company I freelanced for. Every Monday this same routine would happen as I waited to write about whatever cleaning service I was assigned for the week. It didn’t take long once I actually sat down to do it, but I never felt excited.

That’s when James asked me an important question: “Does it give you life?”

A simple question that resonated with me as I approached this task each week following. The simple answer is no, instead it takes away from my time with James or relaxing. And at the same time I felt challenged to be creative and approach boring topics with newfound interest. The biggest thing is it gave me accountability to sit down and write.

But no, still not life-giving

I finally chose to step away from freelancing. Instead I want to really dig into this question of what is life-giving and how could I be embracing more of those moments in my day-to-day life.

I think we could all take some time to reflect intentionally on this topic and then really move toward things that give us life. I’m sure there’s a few daily requirements or unnecessary habits that are getting in the way of doing things that truly bring us joy.

And so I turn the question to you, whatever you are doing in your daily routine, is it life-giving?
