“Let’s adopt.”A couple of months into dating and we were already dreaming about a future together. We were talking about getting married, where we would work, whether we wanted pets, and how we wanted our family to look. James shared with Haley that he’d been praying about adoption. It was something Haley had been thinking about, too. On a spiritual level, we knew God had adopted us into his family, and now God has given us a special love for children who need adoptive parents.

Writing this today feels like a culmination of hope and preparation. During these 5 years since our initial conversation, we finished college, moved to a new city and bought a house, adopted our puppies, and became foster parents. With each new phase in our relationship, we continually come back to our heart to parent through adoption.

We jumped into the adoption process last month and we’re getting the very last pieces of our paperwork in. It seems appropriate that the month we chose to dive into the adoption process is a month focused on raising awareness for adoption! We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to adopt. It’s refreshing to remember that behind all this paperwork is a process focused on ensuring a healthy home and future for some sweet kiddos.

During this past month, we’ve started our home study, hired an adoption consultant, and gathered designed our adoption profile. Once our home study is in and our adoption profiles printed, we’ll be match-eligible! When our consultant receives information on expectant parents looking to place their child(ren) with a family, we’ll be able to present our profile for consideration. The consultant we’re working with has matched families in a crazy minimum of 48 hours and maximum of 3 months. We’ll be adopting domestically and will be traveling to the home-state of the expectant parent(s). Sometimes older children are placed for adoption and we’ve also asked to be considered in these cases. We’re excited and eager to see what God has on the horizon.
